3 | | report that vaccinations are one of the best ways to put an end |
4 | | to the serious effects of certain diseases; and

5 | | WHEREAS, From January 1, 2015 to January 30, 2015, 102 |
6 | | people from 14 states were reported to have measles; and
|
7 | | WHEREAS, On January 23, 2015, the Centers for Disease |
8 | | Control and Prevention issued a Health Advisory to notify |
9 | | public health departments and healthcare facilities about this |
10 | | multi-state outbreak and to provide guidance for healthcare |
11 | | providers nationwide; and
|
12 | | WHEREAS, The United States experienced a record number of |
13 | | measles cases during 2014, with 644 cases from 27 states |
14 | | reported to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's |
15 | | National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases; |
16 | | this is the greatest number of cases since measles elimination |
17 | | was documented in the United States in 2000; and

18 | | WHEREAS, The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's |
19 | | Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices reports that |
20 | | adolescents between 13 and 17 years of age routinely receive |
21 | | meningococcal conjugate, tetanus, diphtheria, and acellular |
