| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The United States consistently ranks among the | ||||||
3 | lowest performing educational systems, especially in the | ||||||
4 | subjects of math and science; one brilliant high school teacher | ||||||
5 | is combating these statistics, one life at a time; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Mark Butcher has been teaching at Rochester High | ||||||
7 | School for 24 years, following 14 years of work at the St. | ||||||
8 | John's Hospital Laboratory; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Mark Butcher continues to inspire hundreds of | ||||||
10 | young minds with his hands-on approach to the subjects of | ||||||
11 | physics and mathematics, always utilizing engaging and | ||||||
12 | creative teaching methods; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Mark Butcher's devotion has been formally | ||||||
14 | recognized through being designated as The Voice Top Teacher of | ||||||
15 | 2015; and
| ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, Mark Butcher serves as both friend and mentor to | ||||||
17 | his students, from stopping kids in the hallway to shake their | ||||||
18 | hand and wish them a good day to tutoring students, whether | ||||||
19 | they were enrolled in his classes or not, and always giving | ||||||
20 | college advice; and

1 | WHEREAS, Mark Butcher has encouraged every young person he | ||||||
2 | encountered to follow his or her dreams, often cutting out | ||||||
3 | newspaper articles and asking students to sign them for when | ||||||
4 | they become famous; and | ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Mark Butcher is clearly an exemplary teacher, | ||||||
6 | always going above and beyond in his dedication to students; he | ||||||
7 | invests his wisdom and encouragement in the next generation, | ||||||
8 | even on weekends; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Mark Butcher also helped craft Rochester's dual | ||||||
10 | credit program, where students can save essential money and | ||||||
11 | time before entering higher education programs; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Mark Butcher has lived his life as a Christian man | ||||||
13 | who has raised his children, and treated every other child, | ||||||
14 | with these very same values, obtaining the greatest respect of | ||||||
15 | students and staff alike; therefore, be it
| ||||||
16 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
17 | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
18 | join in honoring the tremendous legacy of Mark Butcher, who | ||||||
19 | recognizes and contributes to the unique potential of every | ||||||
20 | young life he encounters; and be it further
