HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to honor the passing of Fox Lake Police
4Department Lieutenant Charles Joseph Gliniewicz, who was
5killed in the line of duty on September 1, 2015; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Lt. Gliniewicz, affectionately known as "G.I.
7Joe" by members of the community, was born on August 25, 1963
8in Libertyville; he was raised in Antioch and graduated from
9Antioch High School in 1981; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Following high school, Lt. Gliniewicz enlisted in
11the United States Army, where he was awarded numerous
12commendations during his active and reserve duty career that
13spanned 27 years; and
 
14    WHEREAS, In 1985, Lt. Gliniewicz began his career with the
15Fox Lake Police Department, moving quickly through the ranks;
16he soon took over the Department's Police Explorers program;
17and
 
18    WHEREAS, Lt. Gliniewicz served with Explorer Post 300 since
191987, where his passion inspired many young people onto
20successful futures; serving alongside his wife and others, Post
21300 experienced great success at Explorer competitions

1throughout the country, known for their exceptional
2preparedness for law enforcement careers; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Lt. Gliniewicz was the loving and dedicated
4husband of his wife, Melodie, since 1989; the two, who
5complemented and completed each other, always made time for
6their weekly date night despite the rigors of raising their
7sons; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Lt. Gliniewicz was the father of 4 sons, Joseph,
9Donald, Jeffrey, and David; 2 of them followed their father
10into public service careers and all made their father proud as
11he reveled in his most important life role as their father; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Lt. Gliniewicz always sought to improve his life
13and others through education, which led him to complete his
14Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice in 2006 to better serve
15his community as a police officer and the Explorers as a
16leader; and
 
17    WHEREAS, On the morning of September 1, 2015, Lt.
18Gliniewicz responded to a suspicious situation involving 3
19suspects and lost his life in the course of performing his
20duties; therefore, be it
 
21    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE

1NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
2honor the life and service of Lt. Charles Joseph Gliniewicz,
3whose dedication to his community, his family, and public
4service will never be forgotten; and be it further
 
5    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
6presented to Lt. Gliniewicz's widow, Melodie Gliniewicz, as a
7symbol of our esteem and respect.
