HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to recognize Sandra Bruce on her years of
4dedication to Catholic Health Care; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Sandra Bruce took on the role of CEO at Berrien
6County Hospital at the age of 29 and has continued in strong
7leadership roles ever since with more than 35 years of hospital
8experience; most recently, she served as President and CEO of
9Resurrection Health Care for 3 years; she was named President
10and CEO of Presence Health when the health system was formed
11under her leadership from the joining of Resurrection Health
12Care and Provena Health on November 1, 2011; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Sandra Bruce has previously served as past Chair
14of the Board of Trustees of the Catholic Health Association of
15the United States and continues to be an active committee
16member; she has served on committees within the American
17Hospital Association and several State hospital associations;
18currently, she serves on several councils of the Illinois
19Hospital Association; in 2009, she was appointed to the
20Commission on a High Performance Health System (The
21Commonwealth Fund) to help shape health reform; she also
22remains enthusiastic about mentoring other women as they
23navigate their own career paths by identifying talents and

1skills where they can excel; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Sandra Bruce was named one of the nation's 2011
3Top 25 Women in Healthcare by Modern Healthcare magazine; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Sandra Bruce's earliest foray in advocating for
5social justice was in the late 1960s and early 1970s as
6Medicaid and Medicare were being put into place; her commitment
7to being a voice for the voiceless led her to shaping policies
8we take for granted today; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Sandra Bruce is a Fellow in the American College
10of Health Care Executives; she holds a master's degree in
11health administration from the University of Notre Dame and a
12bachelor's degree from Western Michigan University; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Sandra Bruce has been an influential healthcare
14leader and a strong advocate for improving access to care for
15all; she has indicated her strong attraction to public and
16religious health care organizations because they share a common
17goal - to ensure all patients receive a high quality of care
18regardless of their means; therefore, be it
 
19    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
20NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
21recognize Sandra Bruce on her years of dedication to Catholic

3    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
