HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Joyce Elaine Gunter of Sesser, who passed away on December 25, 2015; and

WHEREAS, Joyce Gunter was born in Christopher on July 27, 1950 to Andrew Earl and Clara Aline (nee Crocker) Brown; she graduated from Sesser-Valier High School in 1968 and married Hershel Lee Gunter on June 19, 1971 at Methodist Church in Sesser; and

WHEREAS, Joyce Gunter worked as general assistance job project coordinator for the Goode Township Supervisor from April 1, 1986 to June 30, 2010; she worked part-time for the City of Sesser as Maple Hill Cemetery secretary from January 4, 1999 to April 30, 2014, when she retired; she worked at Decca Records in Pinckneyville before her marriage and shortly after; she worked at the Sesser Garment Factory during mine layoffs; and

WHEREAS, Joyce Gunter was community minded and actively involved for many years with the Sesser Junior Woman's Club, the Sesser Junior Baseball-Softball Youth Organization, the Sesser Opera House Restoration, the Sesser Area Chamber of Commerce, the Sesser American Legion Auxiliary, the Southern Illinois Arthritis Foundation, and the Goode-Barren Historical-Genealogical Society; she and her mother cataloged the Maple Hill Cemetery and put it in book form in 1996, which was sold by the historical society; and

WHEREAS, Joyce Gunter was preceded in death by her husband, Hershel Lee Gunter; her father, Andrew Earl Brown; her paternal grandparents, Asia Nat and Lettie Belle (Miller) Brown; her maternal grandparents, Raymond J. and Mary Della (McBride) Crocker; her father and mother-in-law, Albert Murphy and Leona (Van Hoye) Gunter; and her brother and sister-in-law, Francis Albert and Judith "Judy" Ann (Pomroy) Gunter, and their son, Keith Allen Gunter; and

WHEREAS, Joyce Gunter is survived by her mother, Clara Aline (Crocker) Brown; her 3 sons and their families, Brian Lee Gunter and his wife, Angela Lynn (Murphy), Brent Andrew Murphy Gunter and his wife, Melissa Ann (Donoho), and Brice Taylor Gunter and his wife, Karla Marie (Nipper); her 9 grandchildren, Lukas Brian Gunter, Elijah "Eli" Eugene Gunter, Garrett Lee Gunter, Gabe Edward Gunter, Annabelle "Belle" Lynn Gunter, Brayden Andrew Murphy Gunter, Cody Raymond J. Gunter, Bryla Marie Gunter, and Stella Elaine Gunter; her sisters and brother and their families, Ruth Ann Brown Hicks, Glenna Jean Brown and her husband, Ronald Ray Roberson, and David Earl and his wife, Sharon Kay (Kern) Brown; her nieces and nephews, William "Billy" Gale Hicks, Vicki Lynn (Hicks) and her husband, Bruce Alan Lewis, Alan Dale and his wife, Kelley Leann (Loucks) Hicks, Patrisha "Tish" Ann (Hicks) and her husband, Robert "Bob" Edward Pinegar, Roger Earl and wife, Sandra Dianne (Pitchford) Hicks, Richard Ray Roberson, Randall Rex Roberson, Edward Dean Ritchie, Crystal Gail (Brown) and her husband, Scott David Dunseth, and Dustin Earl and wife, Noelle Shelby (Shultz) Brown; her great-nephews and nieces are Ryan Gale Hicks, Christin Michelle Hicks, Jordan Lee Hicks, William Andrew "Andy" and wife, Anna Kathaleen "Katie" (House) Lewis, Wade Alan Lewis, Alyn Beth (Hicks) and husband, Timothy James Newbury, Tiffany Chanelle (Hicks) and husband, William Eric Powell, Sarah Elizabeth (Hicks) Alexander, Mahaylah Claire (Hicks) and husband, Timothy Lee Mabrey, Robert Ethan Hicks, Dustin Lee Hicks, Alyana Brooke Hicks, Michael Edward, Jeanna Ann Louise Pinegar, Timothy John Hicks, Issac Lee Hicks and fiancée, Kelsey Whitecotton, Katie Dianne (Hicks) and husband, Kyle Ray Phillips, Grace Abigail (Hicks) and husband, Michael Phelps, Jonathon Dean Ritchie, Owen Nathanial, Amelia Paige Dunseth, Collin Andrew Brown, Lauren Elizabeth Brown; her great-great-nephews and nieces include Halle Nicole Meiner, Waylon Lee Hicks, Cadean Ryan Hicks, Skyler Lynn Lewis, Layla Belle Newbury, Alba James Newbury, London Rhyan Powell, Talan Michael Alexander, Brooklyn Nevaeh Grace, Ashlee Nicole Hicks, Torie Aline Pinegar, Jacob "Jake" Aaron Hicks, Joshua "Josh" Thomas Hicks, Joseph "Joey" Robert Hicks, Gauge Ray Phillips, Karlie Mae Phillips, Della Kate Phillips, and Noa Grace Phelps; Gunter brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law include Donald Ray and wife, Sharlyn Kay (Offerman) Gunter, Allen Dakle and wife, Diane (Rector, Tanner) Gunter, Brenda Lou Gunter, Garry Wayne and wife, Dori Sue (Cowsert) Gunter, Dennis James and wife, Lori Dawn (Bearden) Gunter, and Linda Sue (Gunter) and husband, Samuel "Sam" Wink; Gunter nieces and nephews are Heather Kay (Gunter) and husband, Joshua Lee Raymond and daughter, Piper Ann, Sherri Dawn Gunter and daughter, Shayna Ranae Sloan, Jason Ray and wife, Shawna Diane (Wingo) Gunter and children, Gavin Ray, Jaslyn Nicole, Cory Don Gunter, and children Jordan Scott, Joshua Ray Gunter, Jaxson Michael Gunter, Marty Allen and wife, Vicki Leigh (Garmane) Gunter and daughter, Michelle Leigh (Gunter) and husband, Craig Allen and daughter, Jazmine Nichole, Wendy Sue (Gunter) Anderson and children, Alex Lee, and Mollie Sue Anderson, Kyle Wayne and wife, Cara Lynn (Frey) Gunter and son, Ryan Gunter, Kara Charlene Gunter and daughters, Valerie Marie Gunter and Ariel Michelle Gunter, Samuel Blake and wife, Misty Kay (Baker) Wink, and daughter, Makenne Faye Newell, and Nekko Lee Wink and fiancée, Mikala Chamness and son, Jaden Murphy Kellerman; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Joyce Elaine Gunter, and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Joyce Gunter as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
