HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are pleased to recognize milestone events in
4the lives of Illinois citizens; and
 
5    WHEREAS, It has come to our attention that Lynn Gorden
6Caulk celebrated his 95th Birthday this past summer; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Lynn Caulk was born to Robert and Essie Caulk on
8July 6, 1920, the 9th of 13 children; Lynn's father passed away
9when Lynn was 21 years old, leaving him to assist his mother
10with the upkeep of her home; he helped financially support his
11family and care for his 4 younger siblings; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Lynn Caulk graduated from Witt High School in 1938
13and began working at a foundry in Schram City, manufacturing
14carburetors; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Lynn Caulk entered the United States Army on
16October 1, 1942, serving as a machine gunner in the 33rd
17Infantry, Heavy Weapons Division; he was stationed in the South
18Pacific for 39 months in combat without leave until his
19discharge on December 22, 1945; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Upon his return from service to his country, Lynn

1Caulk went to work at Eagle Pitcher; he then went to work for
2Illinois Power in 1950 until his retirement as Line Crew
3Foreman in August of 1982; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Lynn Caulk married Rose Reck on January 31, 1948
5and they were blessed with 3 children, Roger, Rose Ann, and
6Penny; he remained married to Rose for 50 years until her death
7in 1998; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Lynn Caulk moved to the Rochester area in November
9of 1996 to be near his daughters, Penny and Rose Ann; he later
10moved to Springfield, where he shuttled cars to auction sites
11for various automobile dealerships in the area; he continued
12driving until the age of 90; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Lynn Caulk found love again late in life with
14Claire Papai; after 17 years together, the 2 spend their time
15playing cards, traveling, reading, and enjoying their golden
16years together; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Lynn Caulk has 6 grandchildren and 4
18great-grandchildren; he is still an active card player and is
19an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and Illini basketball
20teams; in his spare time, he enjoys walking, reading, and
21working on Sudoku puzzles; and

1    WHEREAS, Lynn Caulk is highly respected in his community
2and deeply loved by his family; therefore, be it
 
3    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
4NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
5recognize and honor Lynn Gorden Caulk for his contributions to
6his community and our nation; and be it further
 
7    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
8presented to Lynn Caulk as an expression of our esteem and
9respect.
