HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to commend and applaud Patty Ryan for her
4great dedication and her many significant achievements; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Saint Ignatius College Prep, a Jesuit Catholic
6school in the heart of Chicago, is a diverse community
7dedicated to educating young men and women for lives of faith,
8love, service, and leadership; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Through outstanding teaching and personal
10formation, Saint Ignatius College Prep challenges its talented
11student body to intellectual excellence, integrity, and
12lifelong learning and growth; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Patty Ryan is an esteemed alumni of Saint Ignatius
14College Prep, embodying wholeheartedly the belief that the
15Saint Ignatius graduate will examine his or her religious
16feelings and beliefs with a view to adhering to her faith's
17choice of a fundamental orientation toward God and establishing
18a relationship with a religious tradition and community; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Patty Ryan believes in taking more responsibility
20for exploring, confirming, and living out her own faith; she
21embodies a core tenant of her faith by continuing to move

1beyond self-interest or self-centeredness in her relationships
2with others; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Patty Ryan demonstrates herself to be a person for
4others in the Jesuit tradition and encourages her players and
5students to be men and women for others; and
 
6    WHEREAS, As a Saint Ignatius College Prep alumni, Patty
7Ryan accepts the charge of her faith to embrace intentional
8responsibility for her own growth and to risk deeper levels of
9relationship in which one discloses self, accepts the mystery
10of another person, and cherishes that person; she has also
11achieved considerable knowledge of some of the many needs of
12local and wider communities and has taken a place in these
13communities as a competent, concerned, and responsible member;
14and
 
15    WHEREAS, Patty Ryan continues to exhibit personal growth of
16mastery of intellectual integrity in her personal quest for the
17truth of her religious beliefs and her response to issues of
18social justice; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Patty Ryan was an esteemed participant on the
20Saint Ignatius Wolfpack Girls Varsity Volleyball Team and
21started all four years of high school on the Varsity Team; and

1    WHEREAS, Patty Ryan was an All-State volleyball stand-out
2at Saint Ignatius College Prep, with some of her
3accomplishments including Saint Ignatius Team MVP (1994),
4All-Division and All-Conference for the Girls Catholic
5Athletic Conference (1991-1994), Chicago Sun Times All-Area
6Team (1994), Chicago Tribune All-Area Team (1994), and
7induction into the Girls Catholic Athletic Conference Hall of
8Fame (2011-2012); and
 
9    WHEREAS, After graduating from Saint Ignatius College
10Prep, Patty Ryan went on to earn a full-ride volleyball
11scholarship from Loyola University Chicago; during her senior
12year at Loyola University Chicago, she was named Player of the
13Year in that athletic conference; and
 
14    WHEREAS, As a Saint Ignatius Varsity assistant varsity
15volleyball coach, Patty Ryan endeavors to develop student
16athletes not only on the court, but off the court as well, and
17to help them learn self-discipline, perseverance, hard work, a
18sense of personal and school pride, and personal integrity; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Over the past 16 years, Patty Ryan helped lead the
20Saint Ignatius Wolfpack Varsity Volleyball team to 10 IHSA
21Regional Championships, three IHSA Sectional Championships,
22five IHSA Sweet Sixteen appearances, and one Girls Athletic
23Conference Championship; under her leadership, the team beat

1the Mother McAuley Mighty Macs for the first time in Saint
2Ignatius school history; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Patty Ryan has recently been informed of her
4successful nomination for induction into the Saint Ignatius
5Hall of Fame; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Patty Ryan's husband Michael and her children,
7Abby, Kelly, Mikey, and Patrick, are abundantly proud of her
8achievements; therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
10NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
11commend and applaud Patty Ryan for her great dedication and
12many significant achievements and wish her great success and
13happiness in the future; and be it further
 
14    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
15presented to Patty Ryan as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
