Amends the State Commemorative Dates Act. Designates the third Saturday in September of each year as "Preventing Lost Potential Day", to be observed throughout the State as a day set apart to provide a new focus on the importance of and dedication to educate, encourage, protect, and develop our State's youth. Effective immediately.

1 | | AN ACT concerning government.

2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,

3 | | represented in the General Assembly:

4 | | Section 5. The State Commemorative Dates Act is amended by |
5 | | adding Section 141 as follows: |
6 | | (5 ILCS 490/141 new) |
7 | | Sec. 141. Preventing Lost Potential Day. The third Saturday |
8 | | in September of each year is designated as Preventing Lost |
9 | | Potential Day, to be observed throughout the State as a day set |
10 | | apart to provide a new focus on the importance of and |
11 | | dedication to educate, encourage, protect, and develop our |
12 | | State's youth. The State of Illinois must push to allow all |
13 | | youth to experience life in the fullest, increasing exposure to |
14 | | positive community influences, and enhancing the development |
15 | | of a positive and confident approach to citizenship. This day |
16 | | shall serve as a continued symbol of the movement to make the |
17 | | State of Illinois the best place in the nation for youth.

18 | | Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon |
19 | | becoming law.
