Amends the Pharmacy Practice Act. Extends the repeal of the medicine locking closure package pilot program from January 1, 2017 to January 1, 2018. Effective immediately.

2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
3 | | represented in the General Assembly:

4 | | Section 5. The Pharmacy Practice Act is amended by changing |
5 | | Section 16c as follows: |
6 | | (225 ILCS 85/16c) |
7 | | (Section scheduled to be repealed on January 1, 2017) |
8 | | Sec. 16c. Medicine locking closure package. |
9 | | (a) As used in this Section: |
10 | | "Medicine locking closure package" means any alphanumeric |
11 | | combination locking closure mechanism that can only be unlocked |
12 | | with a user-generated, resettable alphanumeric code in |
13 | | combination with an amber prescription container that forms a |
14 | | package that allows only the person with a prescription access |
15 | | to the medicine. |
16 | | "Schedule II controlled substance" means a Schedule II |
17 | | controlled substance under the United States Controlled |
18 | | Substances Act and 21 CFR 1308. |
19 | | (b) Subject to appropriation, effective January 1, 2016, |
20 | | the Department shall by rule implement a pilot project |
21 | | requiring that every new or refilled prescription for a |
22 | | Schedule II controlled substance containing hydrocodone |
23 | | dispensed by a pharmacy that voluntarily decides to participate |
