2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of former State Senator Claude U. "Bud" | ||||||
4 | Stone, Jr. of Morton, who passed away on December 29, 2014; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Sen. Stone was born in Peoria on April 30, 1926 to | ||||||
6 | Claude U. and Alma Marie (nee Poppen) Stone; he attended White | ||||||
7 | Grade School and Peoria High School and received his bachelor's | ||||||
8 | degrees from Cornell University and Bradley University; he | ||||||
9 | received his master's degree in business administration from | ||||||
10 | Stanford University; he married Mary L. Thomas on March 14, | ||||||
11 | 1953 in Roanoke; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Sen. Stone worked for Caterpillar, Inc. for 33 | ||||||
13 | years, holding management positions in pricing, advertising, | ||||||
14 | sales development, and marketing, all within the Engine | ||||||
15 | Division; he retired in 1985; and
| ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, Sen. Stone served as an Illinois State Senator in | ||||||
17 | the 92nd General Assembly, representing the 45th Senate | ||||||
18 | District; and | ||||||
19 | WHEREAS, Sen. Stone was actively involved in many | ||||||
20 | organizations and committees; he was a Republican Precinct | ||||||
21 | Committeeman since 1956 in Peoria and Tazewell counties; he was |

1 | active with Illinois young-Republican organizations and the | ||||||
2 | Republican Party; he also served as Assistant Secretary of the | ||||||
3 | Peoria County Republican Organization, as Vice-President of | ||||||
4 | the City of Peoria Republican Organization, and as Chairman of | ||||||
5 | the Tazewell County Republican Central Committee; in 1996, he | ||||||
6 | shared the Tazewell County GOP Man of the Year award; he was a | ||||||
7 | member of the Morton Planning Commission for 30 years and he | ||||||
8 | was a founding and 26-year member of the Land Use Advisory | ||||||
9 | Committee for the Tri-County Regional Planning Commission; | ||||||
10 | prior to his service to Morton, he served on the Peoria | ||||||
11 | Planning and Zoning Commission; his greatest length of tenure | ||||||
12 | was being a member of the Illinois State Archeological Society | ||||||
13 | for over 62 years; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, Sen. Stone was preceded in death by his wife, | ||||||
15 | Mary, and his sister, Sheila Day; and
| ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, Sen. Stone is survived by his 2 daughters, Sandra | ||||||
17 | E. (James) Ludwig and Karen M. (Michael) McEntire; his son, | ||||||
18 | Thomas L. Stone; his 6 grandchildren; his 5 | ||||||
19 | great-grandchildren; and his stepsister, Joann Feucht; | ||||||
20 | therefore, be it

21 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL | ||||||
22 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
23 | former State Senator Claude U. "Bud" Stone, Jr., and extend our |

1 | sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew | ||||||
2 | and loved him; and be it further
| ||||||
3 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
4 | presented to the family of Sen. Stone as an expression of our | ||||||
5 | deepest sympathy.
