SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of former State Senator Claude U. "Bud"
4Stone, Jr. of Morton, who passed away on December 29, 2014; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Sen. Stone was born in Peoria on April 30, 1926 to
6Claude U. and Alma Marie (nee Poppen) Stone; he attended White
7Grade School and Peoria High School and received his bachelor's
8degrees from Cornell University and Bradley University; he
9received his master's degree in business administration from
10Stanford University; he married Mary L. Thomas on March 14,
111953 in Roanoke; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Sen. Stone worked for Caterpillar, Inc. for 33
13years, holding management positions in pricing, advertising,
14sales development, and marketing, all within the Engine
15Division; he retired in 1985; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Sen. Stone served as an Illinois State Senator in
17the 92nd General Assembly, representing the 45th Senate
18District; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Sen. Stone was actively involved in many
20organizations and committees; he was a Republican Precinct
21Committeeman since 1956 in Peoria and Tazewell counties; he was

1active with Illinois young-Republican organizations and the
2Republican Party; he also served as Assistant Secretary of the
3Peoria County Republican Organization, as Vice-President of
4the City of Peoria Republican Organization, and as Chairman of
5the Tazewell County Republican Central Committee; in 1996, he
6shared the Tazewell County GOP Man of the Year award; he was a
7member of the Morton Planning Commission for 30 years and he
8was a founding and 26-year member of the Land Use Advisory
9Committee for the Tri-County Regional Planning Commission;
10prior to his service to Morton, he served on the Peoria
11Planning and Zoning Commission; his greatest length of tenure
12was being a member of the Illinois State Archeological Society
13for over 62 years; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Sen. Stone was preceded in death by his wife,
15Mary, and his sister, Sheila Day; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Sen. Stone is survived by his 2 daughters, Sandra
17E. (James) Ludwig and Karen M. (Michael) McEntire; his son,
18Thomas L. Stone; his 6 grandchildren; his 5
19great-grandchildren; and his stepsister, Joann Feucht;
20therefore, be it
 
21    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
22ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
23former State Senator Claude U. "Bud" Stone, Jr., and extend our

1sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew
2and loved him; and be it further
 
3    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
4presented to the family of Sen. Stone as an expression of our
5deepest sympathy.
