2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Richard F. Curran, who passed away on | ||||||
4 | June 18, 2015; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Richard Curran was born on March 25, 1927 in | ||||||
6 | Dixon; his parents were Harold and Anne (nee Fielding) Curran; | ||||||
7 | he was a longtime resident of the Joliet area and formerly | ||||||
8 | lived in Dixon, Sterling, Freeport, and Plainfield; he and his | ||||||
9 | wife also enjoyed 20 years of retirement wintering in Siesta | ||||||
10 | Key, Florida; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Richard Curran served his country as a member of | ||||||
12 | the United States Navy during World War II and the Korean War; | ||||||
13 | and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, Richard Curran graduated from Aquin High School in | ||||||
15 | 1944 and attended Loras College; and
| ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, Richard Curran served as President of the Will | ||||||
17 | County Municipal League; he considered being one of the active | ||||||
18 | participants in the development of Interstate 355 Veterans | ||||||
19 | Parkway connecting Interstate 55 and Interstate 80 to be among | ||||||
20 | his greatest accomplishments; he was a founding member of the | ||||||
21 | West Jefferson Business Association; he also served as a Joliet |

1 | City Councilman from 1963 to 1971 and a member of the District | ||||||
2 | 86 Board of Education from 1955 to 1961, serving as the Board's | ||||||
3 | President from 1958 to 1961; and | ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, Richard Curran was an active member of the | ||||||
5 | Cathedral of St. Raymond Nonnatus, where he served as head | ||||||
6 | usher for many years; he was also a member of the Joliet Rotary | ||||||
7 | Club for over 30 years; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Richard Curran was preceded in death by his | ||||||
9 | parents and a brother, Dr. Eugene (Germaine) Curran; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Richard Curran is survived by his beloved wife, | ||||||
11 | Priscilla (nee McKewan) Curran; 4 children, Kathleen (James) | ||||||
12 | Schlesser, Michael (Colleen) Curran, Jane (William) Purpura, | ||||||
13 | and Timothy Curran; 8 grandchildren, Jay Schlesser, Katy Law, | ||||||
14 | Andrew Schlesser, Steve Schlesser, John Curran, Daniel Curran, | ||||||
15 | Kelly Curran, and Patti Purpura; 5 great-grandchildren; a | ||||||
16 | sister, Julianne "Julie" (the late John) Heilman; and many | ||||||
17 | nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

18 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL | ||||||
19 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his | ||||||
20 | family and friends, mourn the passing of Richard F. Curran; and | ||||||
21 | be it further

2 | presented to the family of Richard Curran as an expression of | ||||||
3 | our sympathy.
