SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Genevieve Rockingham of North Chicago,
4who passed away on September 2, 2015; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Genevieve Rockingham was born on November 28, 1922
6in Florence, Alabama; her parents were Sarah and William Gray;
7she married Leon Rockingham, Sr. in 1949; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Genevieve Rockingham accepted Christ at an early
9age and was a member of Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church in
10Florence; after graduating from Burrell High School, she moved
11with her mother to North Chicago in 1946 to join her other
12siblings who had previously migrated north; upon arriving in
13North Chicago, she became a faithful member of First Baptist
14Church in North Chicago under Pastor E. J. Coles; as a member
15for 70 years and one of the oldest members of First Baptist
16Church, she served in the Mission, the choir, the mother's
17board, Sunday school, and many other church programs throughout
18the years; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Genevieve Rockingham worked for a short time at
20the E.S.O. at Great Lakes; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Genevieve Rockingham was preceded in death by her

1parents; her husband, Leon; her daughter-in-law, Gwendolyn
2Rockingham; and her 11 sisters and brothers, Annie, Theodore,
3Sylvia, Bill, Sarah, Alonzo, Pearline, Alsene, Joe Henry,
4Hattie May, and Jack; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Genevieve Rockingham is survived by her daughter,
6Nina Rockingham Tate; her son, North Chicago Mayor Leon
7Rockingham, Jr.; her grandchildren, Tameka (Sean) Wilson, Lea
8Rockingham, and Matthew Tate; her great-grandchildren, Brianna
9Rockingham and David, Terryn, and Cameron Wilson; and her many
10nephews, nieces, other relatives, and dear friends; therefore,
11be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
13ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with her
14family and friends, mourn the passing of Genevieve Rockingham;
15and be it further
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17presented to the family of Genevieve Rockingham as an
18expression of our sympathy.
