2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of Chester Stranczek; and
|
4 | | WHEREAS, Chester Stranczek served as Mayor of the Village |
5 | | of Crestwood from 1969 until he stepped down in August of 2007; |
6 | | prior to becoming Mayor, he had served as a village trustee for |
7 | | a dozen years; and
|
8 | | WHEREAS, During his tenure as Mayor, Chester Stranczek was |
9 | | instrumental in developing retail projects, such as the |
10 | | Rivercrest Shopping Center, and in building recreational |
11 | | facilities for village residents, such as the wellness center |
12 | | and Biela Center; he spearheaded the initiative to refund a |
13 | | portion of the Village's share of the overall property tax bill |
14 | | back to the Village's residents; he was also instrumental in |
15 | | bringing the Cook County Cheetahs to the Village in 1999; and
|
16 | | WHEREAS, Chester Stranczek was the founder of Harvey-based |
17 | | trucking company Cresco Lines; he started in the trucking |
18 | | business in 1959, hauling his first load for Allied Tube and |
19 | | Conduit; while heading up Cresco, he served as chairman of the |
20 | | American Trucking Association; he retired from the company in |
21 | | 1995; and
