SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Leon Mayer of Savoy, who passed away on
4July 14, 2015; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Leon Mayer was born in Millstadt on April 16, 1927
6to Albert and Agnes (nee Schlemer) Mayer; after high school, he
7served in the United States Navy as a "Seabee" (Construction
8Battalion); he then attended Southern Illinois University and
9married Patricia Williamson; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Leon Mayer obtained his master's and doctoral
11degrees from the University of Illinois and ended his career
12there as an associate professor of vocational and technical
13education; he had a passion for international agricultural
14education; during the 1970s, he worked in administration and
15program development at Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria,
16Nigeria as a representative of the United States Agency for
17International Development; he also taught at universities in
18Guam and Jamaica; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Leon Mayer was a devout Catholic and served the
20church in many ways over the years; he was also an avid
21gardener and an excellent "shade tree" mechanic and home
22improvement specialist; his favorite hobby was dancing the

1polka and he was a member of several polka clubs over the
2years; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Leon Mayer was preceded in death by his wife of 48
4years, Patricia; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Leon Mayer is survived by his sons, John and his
6wife, Lezlie (Shoaf) Mayer, Mark and his wife, Margaret
7(Murphy) Mayer, Tom and his wife, Kathy (VanCamp) Mayer, Jim
8and his wife, Pat (Fonner) Mayer, and Joe and his wife, Joy
9(Mathis) Mayer; his 11 grandchildren; and his
10great-grandchild; therefore, be it
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
12ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
13Leon Mayer, and extend our sincere condolences to his family,
14friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to the family of Leon Mayer as an expression of our
17deepest sympathy.
