2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Leo Harris Rector of Champaign, who | ||||||
4 | passed away on November 21, 2015; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Leo Rector was born near Afton, Oklahoma on August | ||||||
6 | 18, 1919 to John F. and Edna Harris Rector; he graduated from | ||||||
7 | Urbana High School in 1938 and completed his junior year at the | ||||||
8 | University of Illinois in forestry before he was drafted into | ||||||
9 | the military in June of 1941; he graduated from Officer | ||||||
10 | Candidate School in October of 1942 and served as company | ||||||
11 | commander of the 1751st Ordnance Supply Company of the 8th Air | ||||||
12 | Force, 388 Bomb Group in England from April of 1943 to June of | ||||||
13 | 1945; he was discharged on May 3, 1936, achieving the rank of | ||||||
14 | major; he married Juanita Fern "Little Bird" Acton on August 3, | ||||||
15 | 1947; and
| ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, Leo Rector owned and operated "Rectors on West | ||||||
17 | Church", an ice cream and sandwich shop on West Church Street | ||||||
18 | in Champaign from 1946 to 1952; he began his long career with | ||||||
19 | Eisner Food Stores in 1952, beginning as store manager and | ||||||
20 | rising quickly to head grocery buyer for Eisner Jewel Food | ||||||
21 | Stores; he retired in 1981; and
| ||||||
22 | WHEREAS, Leo Rector was active with the Boy Scouts |

1 | Arrowhead Council for many years; he was proud that he was an | ||||||
2 | Eagle Scout and that his sons, Michael and Jon, also achieved | ||||||
3 | that honor; he was a member of several organizations, which | ||||||
4 | included the American Legion, the Ansar Shrine, the C-U Elks, | ||||||
5 | the University Club, and the Masonic Lodge, of which he was a | ||||||
6 | life member; he was also a member of First Presbyterian Church | ||||||
7 | in Champaign; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Leo Rector was preceded in death by his parents; | ||||||
9 | his siblings, Bernice LaFuze, Fern Atwood, Dennis Rector, Earl | ||||||
10 | Rector, John Rector, and Orton Rector; and his son, Carl; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Leo Rector is survived by his wife, Juanita; his | ||||||
12 | sons, Michael (Ellen) Rector and Jon (Cathy) Rector; his | ||||||
13 | grandchildren, David Rector, Jason (Lisa) Rector, Collin | ||||||
14 | Rector, Brian Rector, Aaron (Helen) Adsit, and Colleen Adsit | ||||||
15 | (Michael) Stoltz; his great-grandchildren, Kynzee Rector, | ||||||
16 | Sophia Stoltz, and William Stoltz; and his brother, Paul | ||||||
17 | Rector; therefore, be it

18 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL | ||||||
19 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
20 | Leo Harris Rector, and extend our sincere condolences to his | ||||||
21 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
22 | further
