Synopsis As Introduced Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code. Creates the offense of operation of an uninsured motor vehicle causing death, a Class 4 felony. Provides that if a person convicted of the offense of uninsured operation of a motor vehicle causing death has previously been convicted 2 or more times of uninsured operation of a motor vehicle, operation of an uninsured motor vehicle causing bodily harm, or operation of an uninsured motor vehicle causing death, a fine of $5,000 in addition to any sentence of incarceration shall be imposed. Effective immediately.
House Floor Amendment No. 2 Replaces everything after the enacting clause. Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code. Provides that, if a person is convicted of a third or subsequent offense of operation of an insured motor vehicle and the offense causes, as a proximate result of the person's operation of the motor vehicle, the death of one or more persons, the person is guilty of a Class 2 felony. Effective January 1, 2020.
