Synopsis As Introduced Creates the Illinois Holocaust and Genocide Commission Act. Provides for the appointment of members by the Governor and for ex officio members. Authorizes the Commission to provide advice concerning education, memorials, events, and other matters. Provides for funding and coordination through the Illinois State Museum and Department of Natural Resources. Repeals the Act on January 1, 2021.
House Committee Amendment No. 1 Provides that the Minority Leaders of the Senate and House (as well as the President and Speaker) shall each designate a member of his or her respective chamber as an advisor to the Holocaust and Genocide Commission.
House Floor Amendment No. 3 Deletes language (i) requiring the Department of Natural Resources, through the Illinois State Museum, to provide a coordinator for the Illinois Holocaust and Genocide Commission and to pay travel expenses of members of the Commission and (ii) allowing the Department, through the Illinois State Museum, to provide staff and support to the Commission. Instead, allows the Department to cooperate with and advise the Commission in regards to staffing and to support functions and activities of the Commission from moneys available to the Department that may be used for that purpose.
