750 ILCS 60/217from Ch. 40, par. 2312-17

Provides in the provisions relating to remedies in the Domestic Violence Article of the Code of Criminal Procedure relating to the prohibition of the respondent possessing firearms, if the court is satisfied that there is any danger of the illegal use of firearms, and the respondent is present in court, it shall issue an order that the respondent's Firearms Owner's Identification Card be turned over to the local law enforcement agency for safekeeping. Provides that upon expiration of the period of safekeeping, if the firearms or Firearms Owner's Identification Card cannot be returned to respondent because respondent cannot be located, fails to respond to requests to retrieve the firearms, or is not lawfully eligible to possess a firearm, upon petition from the local law enforcement agency, the court may order the local law enforcement agency to destroy the firearms, use the firearms for training purposes, or for any other application as deemed appropriate by the local law enforcement agency; or that the firearms be turned over to a third party who is lawfully eligible to possess firearms, and who does not reside with respondent. In the amendatory changes to the Illinois Domestic Violence Act of 1986, provides that an emergency order of protection may be granted if there is good cause to prohibit the respondent from possessing firearms.
