Synopsis As Introduced
Amends the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Systems Act. Provides that the Department of Public Health may designate a Veterans Administration hospital for participation in an EMS system. Defines "Veterans Administration hospital" to mean a health care facility operated by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs that has been certified by a nationally recognized certifying body approved by the Illinois Department of Public Health and that has applied for participation in an EMS system. Effective immediately.

Replaces everything after the enacting clause. Amends the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Systems Act. Provides that the Department of Public Health has the authority to permit limited EMS System participation by facilities operated by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs, Veterans Health Administration; and that subject to patient preference, Illinois EMS providers may transport patients to Veterans Health Administration facilities that voluntarily participate in an EMS System. Further provides that any Veterans Health Administration facility seeking limited participation in an EMS System shall agree to comply with all Department administrative rules concerning EMS Systems, and that the Department may promulgate rules, including, but not limited to, the types of Veterans Health Administration facilities that may participate in an EMS System and the limitations of participation.
