Synopsis As Introduced
Urges the United States Environmental Protection Agency and the United States Congress to take action against an increase in discharged pollutants from the Whiting, Indiana British Petroleum refinery and give states remedies against other states that pollute shared waters.

House Committee Amendment No. 1
Adds provisions stating the importance of Lake Michigan's beaches and the percentage of Illinois beaches that were declared unsafe last year.

House Floor Amendment No. 2
Replaces everything. Reinserts the provisions of the Resolution as amended by House Amendment No. 1 with the following changes: Further urges British Petroleum to review and reconsider the wastewater treatment facilities proposed to serve the expansion and reconfiguration of its Whiting Refinery with the specific intent to supplement or enhance treatment efficiencies to eliminate or reduce the projected increases of ammonia nitrogen and total suspended solids discharged into Lake Michigan. Deletes a provision concerning an exemption granted by the Indiana Department of Environmental Management. Makes other changes.
