Synopsis As Introduced
Amends the Alcoholism and Other Drug Abuse and Dependency Act. Creates the Abuse of Opiates Prevention and Treatment Fund. Provides that moneys from federal block grants for alcohol and substance abuse and State funds targeted for alcohol and substance abuse may be transferred or appropriated to the Fund. Further provides that moneys in the Fund shall be appropriated to the Department and expended for the purpose of making grants to fund opiate abuse prevention and treatment programs for indigent persons at no or reduced cost to those persons. Provides that grants shall be made to programs throughout the State, based on proportionate need for the funding in the different regions of the State. Amends the State Finance Act to create the fund as a special fund. Effective immediately.
