Synopsis As Introduced Urges the Government of Turkey to uphold and safeguard religious and human rights without compromise, cease its discrimination of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, grant the Ecumenical Patriarchate appropriate international recognition, ecclesiastic succession, the right to train clergy of all nationalities, and to respect the property rights and human rights of the Ecumenical Patriarchate.
Senate Committee Amendment No. 1 Adds language concerning the Turkish government's improvements over the last 8 years in its relation to the general treatment and security of the Ecumenical Patriarchate and recognition of the Turkish government's efforts to resolve these issues in a manner acceptable to all interested parties.
