Synopsis As Introduced
Amends the School Code. Requires the State Board of Education, in consultation with the Department of Transportation, to establish and administer a Safe Routes to School Program under which grants from federal and State transportation funds are awarded to school districts who seek to provide bicycle facilities (such as paths), sidewalks, crossing guards, and traffic-calming measures to enable children to bicycle or walk safely to school.
