Synopsis As Introduced Amends the Unified Code of Corrections. Provides that the court may impose a more severe sentence against a defendant who committed the offense of first degree murder, assault, aggravated assault, battery, aggravated battery, robbery, armed robbery, or aggravated robbery against a person who was a veteran when that person was performing duties as a representative of a veterans' organization.
House Committee Amendment No. 1 Provides that the more severe penalties apply when the defendant knew, or reasonably should have known, that the victim was a veteran performing duties as a representative of a veterans' organization.
