Synopsis As Introduced
Amends the Currency Exchange Act. Provides additional powers to a community or ambulatory currency exchange. Provides that a currency exchange, a group currency exchange, or an association of currency exchanges shall notify the Secretary of Financial and Professional Regulation of any additional activity, product, or service intended to be offered and the Secretary may charge an investigation fee of $500 to ensure the additional activity, product, or service is consistent with the Act. Increases a community exchange license application fee to $1,500 (up from $500). Provides that the Secretary may determine whether an application for a community exchange license may effect the financial stability of other community exchanges within a 2 mile radius if within the City of Chicago or 4 miles if outside the City of Chicago or any affected community currency exchange that may be serving the community in which the business of the applicant is proposing to be conducted. Provides qualifications for the applicants of a currency exchange license. Increases the amount of a surety bond a currency exchange shall file annually with and have approved by the Secretary to $50,000 (up from $10,000). Provides that an arbitrator shall conduct any hearings as provided for under the Act. Provides that all information collected by the Department of Financial and Professional Regulation under an examination or investigation of an ambulatory or community currency exchange shall be maintained for the confidential use by the Department and shall not be disclosed. Provides that an order issued by the Department against an ambulatory or community currency exchange shall be a public record. Makes other corresponding changes.
