Synopsis As Introduced
Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code. Provides that until May 1, 2014, vehicle weight limits do not apply to a commercial motor vehicle used primarily in the transportation of propane winter heating fuel. Provides that a vehicle is not permitted to cross a bridge with posted weight restrictions if the vehicle exceeds the posted weight limit. Effective immediately.

Senate Committee Amendment No. 1
Provides that the weight limit exception for commercial motor vehicles used primarily in the transportation of propane winter heating fuel is limited to vehicles weighing no more than 97,000 pounds.

Senate Floor Amendment No. 2
Replaces everything after the enacting clause. Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code. Provides that upon and during a declaration by the Governor of an emergency propane supply disaster: (1) a truck not in combination, equipped with a cargo tank, used exclusively for the transportation of propane or liquefied petroleum gas may, when laden, transmit upon the road surface, except when on part of the National System of Interstate and Defense Highways, the following maximum weights: 22,000 pounds on a single axle; 40,000 pounds on a tandem axle; 40,000 pounds gross weight on a 2-axle vehicle; 54,000 pounds gross weight on a 3-axle vehicle; (2) a truck when in combination with a trailer equipped with a cargo tank used exclusively for the transportation of propane or liquefied petroleum gas may, when laden, transmit upon the road surface, except when on part of the National System of Interstate and Defense Highways, the following maximum weights: 22,000 pounds on a single axle; 40,000 pounds on a tandem axle; 90,000 pounds gross weight on a 5 or 6-axle vehicle. Provides that these vehicles, when operating under this declaration, are not subject to the bridge formula.
