| 3 | | everything after the enacting clause with the following: |
| 4 | | "Section 5. The School Code is amended by adding Section |
| 5 | | 2-3.206 as follows: |
| 6 | | (105 ILCS 5/2-3.206 new) |
| 7 | | Sec. 2-3.206. American Sign Language implementation. No |
| 8 | | later than July 1, 2026, the State Board of Education shall |
| 9 | | encourage districts to collect teaching resources to support |
| 10 | | American Sign Language programs. The teaching resources may |
| 11 | | include, but need not be limited to: |
| 12 | | (1) the importance and benefits of American Sign |
| 13 | | Language instruction for early ages and the prevalence of |
| 14 | | American Sign Language in the United States; |
| 15 | | (2) information on ways to implement American Sign |
| 16 | | Language instruction into kindergarten through grade 8 |
