SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
50 ILCS 740/11.5 new
65 ILCS 5/11-6-11 new
70 ILCS 705/11n new

    Amends the Illinois Fire Protection Training Act, Illinois Municipal Code, and Fire Protection District Act. Provides that a firefighter or firefighter trainee shall not be required to carry fire protective clothing and safety and protective equipment that weighs more than 75 pounds or more than 50% of the firefighter's weight, whichever is less. Effective immediately.

1    AN ACT concerning local government.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Illinois Fire Protection Training Act is
5amended by adding Section 11.5 as follows:
 
6    (50 ILCS 740/11.5 new)
7    Sec. 11.5. Maximum weight a trainee may carry. The Office
8must adopt a rule or rules limiting the maximum weight of fire
9protective clothing and safety and protective equipment that a
10trainee may carry to 75 pounds or more than 50% of the
11trainee's weight, whichever is less.
 
12    Section 10. The Illinois Municipal Code is amended by
13adding Section 11-6-11 as follows:
 
14    (65 ILCS 5/11-6-11 new)
15    Sec. 11-6-11. Maximum weight of clothing and safety and
16protective equipment. A firefighter shall not be required to
17carry fire protective clothing and safety and protective
18equipment that weighs more than 75 pounds or more than 50% of
19the firefighter's weight, whichever is less.
 
20    Section 15. The Fire Protection District Act is amended by

1adding Section 11n as follows:
 
2    (70 ILCS 705/11n new)
3    Sec. 11n. Maximum weight of clothing and safety and
4protective equipment. A firefighter shall not be required to
5carry fire protective clothing and safety and protective
6equipment that weighs more than 75 pounds or more than 50% of
7the firefighter's weight, whichever is less.
 
8    Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
9becoming law.
