625 ILCS 5/11-1403  from Ch. 95 1/2, par. 11-1403

    Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code. Requires the passenger of a motorcycle to be capable of resting a foot on the footrest while the motorcycle is in motion.

1    AN ACT concerning transportation.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by changing
5Section 11-1403 as follows:
 
6    (625 ILCS 5/11-1403)  (from Ch. 95 1/2, par. 11-1403)
7    Sec. 11-1403. Riding on motorcycles.
8    (a) A person operating a motorcycle shall ride only upon
9the permanent and regular seat attached thereto, and such
10operator shall not carry any other person nor shall any other
11person ride on a motorcycle unless such motorcycle is designed
12to carry more than one person, in which event a passenger may
13ride upon the permanent and regular seat if designed for 2
14persons, or upon another seat firmly attached to the motorcycle
15at the rear or side of the operator.
16    (b) A person shall ride upon a motorcycle only while
17sitting astride the seat, facing forward, with one leg on each
18side of the motorcycle.
19    (c) No person shall operate any motorcycle with handlebar
20grips higher than the height of the head of the operator when
21the operator is seated in the normal driving position astride
22that portion of the seat or saddle occupied by the operator.
23    (d) The operator of any motorcycle shall keep at least one

1hand on a handlebar grip at all times the motorcycle is in
2motion.
3    (e) The operator of a motorcycle may not transport a
4passenger unless the passenger is capable of resting a foot on
5the footrest while the motorcycle is in motion.
