| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 | | Representatives wish to congratulate Tori Trauscht on | 4 | | receiving the Best of the Best Award from the Illinois | 5 | | Association of Park Districts in the category of Outstanding | 6 | | Volunteer of the Year; and
| 7 | | WHEREAS, Tori Trauscht has lived in Mundelein for 34 years; | 8 | | she became concerned with the health of Diamond Lake and | 9 | | started the Indian Creek Watershed Project in 1999; from 2000 | 10 | | to 2015, the group sought and received over four million | 11 | | dollars in grants for improvement of the watershed; in 2006, | 12 | | she was instrumental in creating the Indian Creek | 13 | | Watershed-based plan, which was the first of its kind adopted | 14 | | by the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency; she has always | 15 | | been passionate about restoring waterways and improving | 16 | | natural areas with low-impact restoration methods; and
| 17 | | WHEREAS, Tori Trauscht's activism started in 1990 with the | 18 | | League of Women Voters, where she focused on promoting | 19 | | recycling and waste reduction; she has volunteered throughout | 20 | | her community to aid in the restoration of waterways and | 21 | | natural land areas; her volunteerism extends to her home and to | 22 | | the homes of others; she has installed rain gardens at her home | 23 | | and helped others install them at their homes; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Tori Trauscht was vital in bringing the Mundelein | 2 | | Park &
Recreation District, the Village of Mundelein, Fremont | 3 | | Township, and the Diamond Lake Preservation Alliance together | 4 | | for a project to improve the slopes of a retention pond that | 5 | | drained into Diamond
Lake, the erosion of which was sending | 6 | | sediment into the lake; and
| 7 | | WHEREAS, Tori Trauscht spent over 800 hours researching, | 8 | | meeting with committee members, writing, and
editing a book on | 9 | | the project, which is filled with beautiful photos of the
lake, | 10 | | the history of the area, and a guide on how to be a good steward | 11 | | of the lake; over 2,000 copies were shared with area residents | 12 | | to bring greater awareness
about the 12,000 year old glacial | 13 | | lake that is majority owned by the Mundelein Park &
Recreation | 14 | | District and is under increasing pressure from runoff, climate | 15 | | change, and other
human impacts; and
| 16 | | WHEREAS, The Mundelein Park & Recreation District and the | 17 | | entire Mundelein area is very fortunate to
have someone as | 18 | | knowledgeable as Tori Trauscht who is willing to share her | 19 | | expertise and time
to better the environment; therefore, be it
| 20 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | 21 | | HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | 22 | | we congratulate Tori Trauscht on receiving the Best of the Best |
