HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to commend Derrick Harden for his service to the College of Lake County and the community; and

WHEREAS, Derrick Harden currently serves as the Chief of Staff to the President for the College of Lake County (CLC) and as the Acting Dean of the Lakeshore Campus; and

WHEREAS, Derrick Harden joined the College of Lake County (CLC) in 2012; during his tenure, he has been instrumental in getting State and national recognition for diversity and inclusivity initiatives; he has worked to bring more academic offerings and programs to the CLC, and, in the fall of 2019, the CLC will be breaking ground on a new state of the art campus in downtown Waukegan; and

WHEREAS, In February of 2018, Derrick Harden was given the assignment of revitalizing the Lakeshore Campus of the CLC; he has re-energized the advisory council with new members and a focus on building positive, collaborative community relations specific to student engagement and success initiatives; at the same time in his role as Chief of Staff, he is overseeing the college's strategic planning process and the upcoming 50th anniversary celebration; and

WHEREAS, Derrick Harden will be honored at the 2019 Most Influential African Americans of Lake County Awards sponsored by the Chicago Peoples Voice; and

WHEREAS, Derrick Harden is committed to the community college mission of serving underrepresented students; he is known as a visionary leader and outstanding professional who remains engaged with those he serves; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we commend Derrick Harden for his service to the College of Lake County and the community, and we wish him many more years of success; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Derrick Harden as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
