HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives would like to congratulate the congregation of the Mulkeytown Christian Church on the occasion of its bicentennial homecoming on September 18, 2018; and

WHEREAS, Mulkeytown Christian Church is the oldest Christian Church, Church of Christ in continuous existence in the State of Illinois, having held continuous morning worship services since its organization at the home of John and Sarah Tinsley Kirkpatrick in 1818; and

WHEREAS, Around 1823, a meeting house was built on Four Mile Prairie, two miles southeast of the current location of Mulkeytown; the church was then known as "Four Mile Christian Church"; and

WHEREAS, Mulkeytown was established as a trading post in 1835, and both the town and the church grew when several families migrated north from Kentucky and Tennessee; and

WHEREAS, The church continued to grow, and the current building was constructed in 1881; and

WHEREAS, Mulkeytown Christian Church is the Mother of 11 other congregations and currently has a membership of over 200; the church is pastored by Kurt Jensen, who is in his 16th year of ministry; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the congregation of Mulkeytown Christian Church on the occasion of its bicentennial homecoming, and we commend the continued good work of the church within and beyond the community of Mulkeytown; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Kurt Jensen and the congregation of Mulkeytown Christian Church as an expression of our esteem and respect.
