HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives would
3like to congratulate the congregation of the Mulkeytown
4Christian Church on the occasion of its bicentennial homecoming
5on September 18, 2018; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Mulkeytown Christian Church is the oldest
7Christian Church, Church of Christ in continuous existence in
8the State of Illinois, having held continuous morning worship
9services since its organization at the home of John and Sarah
10Tinsley Kirkpatrick in 1818; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Around 1823, a meeting house was built on Four
12Mile Prairie, two miles southeast of the current location of
13Mulkeytown; the church was then known as "Four Mile Christian
14Church"; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Mulkeytown was established as a trading post in
161835, and both the town and the church grew when several
17families migrated north from Kentucky and Tennessee; and
 
18    WHEREAS, The church continued to grow, and the current
19building was constructed in 1881; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Mulkeytown Christian Church is the Mother of 11

1other congregations and currently has a membership of over 200;
2the church is pastored by Kurt Jensen, who is in his 16th year
3of ministry; therefore, be it
 
4    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
5HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
6we congratulate the congregation of Mulkeytown Christian
7Church on the occasion of its bicentennial homecoming, and we
8commend the continued good work of the church within and beyond
9the community of Mulkeytown; and be it further
 
10    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
11presented to Kurt Jensen and the congregation of Mulkeytown
12Christian Church as an expression of our esteem and respect.
