| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 | | Representatives wish to congratulate Cornerstone Services on | 4 | | the occasion of its 50th anniversary; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Cornerstone Services was founded in 1969 as the | 6 | | Will County Sheltered Workshop by parents and community leaders | 7 | | who wanted to create new opportunities for individuals with | 8 | | disabilities, beginning with services for three people and | 9 | | growing ever since; and
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Since its founding, Cornerstone Services has | 11 | | expanded significantly, offering progressive, comprehensive | 12 | | services for people with disabilities; it promotes choices, | 13 | | dignity, and the opportunity to live and work in the community; | 14 | | it presently serves almost 1,200 persons daily; and
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Cornerstone Services advocates for people with | 16 | | disabilities and is recognized as a leader in providing support | 17 | | through seven-day program locations and 42 group homes in Will | 18 | | and Kankakee Counties; and | 19 | | WHEREAS, Cornerstone Services' 550 full and part-time | 20 | | employees provide specialized services to empower individuals | 21 | | with as much independence as possible and help people find and |

| 1 | | keep jobs, maintain stable housing, and learn to access public | 2 | | transportation and community resources; and
| 3 | | WHEREAS, Last year, Cornerstone Services helped people | 4 | | with disabilities secure 187 new jobs, resulting in $1.5 | 5 | | million in wages; through its assistance, 57 percent of people | 6 | | with mental illness who participate in the State's Individual | 7 | | Placement and Support Program are employed, far outpacing the | 8 | | national average of 15 percent employment for said group; and
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Cornerstone Services is guided by the principle of | 10 | | individual choice, as evidenced by individuals being treated | 11 | | with dignity and respect and being offered a variety of choices | 12 | | and supportive measures to make informed decisions; service | 13 | | plans are developed with, not for, individuals and are driven | 14 | | by the individual served and his or her supporters; the | 15 | | fulfillment of its mission is a continued greater independence | 16 | | for individuals with disabilities; therefore, be it
| 17 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | 18 | | HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | 19 | | we congratulate Cornerstone Services on its 50th anniversary, | 20 | | and we wish it continued success as it serves those with | 21 | | disabilities in Will and Kankakee Counties; and be it further
