HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, It is highly fitting for the House of Representatives to give special commendation to an individual whose heroic actions protected fellow officers and citizens in a deadly situation; and

WHEREAS, In the early morning hours of June 13, 2017, Jersey County Sheriff's Office Deputy Chris Jones responded to an alarm call at D.J.'s Pub and Grill in Jerseyville; and

WHEREAS, When Deputy Jones arrived on the scene, he joined the other officers who were on foot in pursuit of the suspect; and

WHEREAS, Deputy Jones heard gunfire near the suspect and another officer and immediately headed to assist; upon arriving, he witnessed the other officer being shot; Deputy Jones returned fire, striking the suspect; and

WHEREAS, Deputy Jones moved to apprehend the suspect, who, despite being shot, still resisted; Deputy Jones, along with other officers, eventually subdued the suspect, who died at the scene; the wounded officer was transported to the hospital and survived his injury; and

WHEREAS, The selfless actions of Deputy Jones and his fellow officers in the face of life-threatening danger to themselves, undoubtedly kept the citizens of Jersey County safe; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we commend Jersey County Sheriff's Office Deputy Chris Jones for his heroic actions on June 13, 2017 that saved the life of a fellow officer and stopped a dangerous suspect; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Deputy Jones as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
