HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Kenyatta Jackson and
4Jonathan Riley on graduating from Chicago State University and
5being selected as Ms. and Mr. Chicago State University; and
 
6    WHEREAS, In order to qualify for Mr. and Ms. Chicago State
7University, students have to have a minimum GPA of 2.75,
8complete an application, and write a personal statement
9detailing their intended platform; after applications have
10been reviewed, students must participate in practice for the
11Mr./Ms. Chicago State University Pageant, which has several
12different categories, including opening introductions and
13platform speeches, school spirit, talent, and, career
14inspiration, and is judged by the campus community; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Kenyatta Jackson, Ms. Chicago State University,
16is a junior majoring in criminal justice and minoring in
17Spanish; she graduated from Evanston Township High School; she
18recently won a $5,000 Thurgood Marshall College Fund
19scholarship through Wells Fargo; she currently serves as a
20Resident Assistant and has a GPA of 3.25; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Jonathan Riley, Mr. Chicago State University, is
22completing his final year as a collegiate undergraduate,

1studying sociology, and minoring in media and television
2production; he graduated from Walther Lutheran High School and
3then attended Hampton University, where he excelled in dancing
4and performance arts; he left Hampton to enter the workforce in
52001; he later joined Pastor Corey Brooks and Project HOOD, and
6they walked across the country for four months to bring
7awareness to gun violence in Chicago and inner cities
8throughout the nation; he then served as outreach coordinator
9for an incarceration alternative program for youth males ages
1013-18; after two years in that role, he transitioned to the
11Geneva Foundation, where he did similar work; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Jonathan Riley enrolled at Chicago State
13University in the fall of 2016; he served in leadership roles
14with Word Up!, TEMBO, Chicago State University's Upward Bound
15Program, WCSU radio, the first-year experience, and Greek life
16on campus; he is a member of the first class of Chicago State
17University Student Ambassadors and is President of the Theta
18Zeta of Kappa Alpha Psi; therefore, be it
 
19    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
20HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
21we congratulate Kenyatta Jackson and Jonathan Riley on their
22graduation from Chicago State University and on being selected
23as Ms. and Mr. Chicago State University and commend their hard
24work and dedication in pursuing their education; and be it
