HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Chester
4Slaughter of Chicago, who passed away on December 23, 2018; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Chester Slaughter was born and raised on the South
6Side of Chicago and was a successful product of the Chicago
7Public School system; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Chester Slaughter went on to attend Tennessee
9State University (TSU), earning his undergraduate degrees in
10political science and history in 1965; inspired by the civil
11rights movement and determined to make a difference in the
12lives of African Americans, he furthered his education at
13Howard University School of Law in Washington, D.C.; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Chester Slaughter participated in the Howard Law
15Journal and received his Juris Doctorate in 1968; while
16attending law school, he met the love of his life, Ruth Willis;
17and
 
18    WHEREAS, Chester Slaughter's achievement as an outstanding
19defense attorney propelled him to become a trailblazer in the
20legal community and a vital cornerstone of four notable law
21firms; and

1    WHEREAS, Chester Slaughter's diverse career included
2working within the government and public sectors, where he
3served as a supervising Cook County State's Attorney, as
4General Counsel for the Maywood Park District, and as a hearing
5officer for the Cook County Metropolitan Water Reclamation
6District; he will forever be remembered for his remarkable
746-year career as a distinguished attorney, political advisor,
8community advocate, and mentor; therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
10HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
11we mourn the passing of Chester Slaughter and extend our
12sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew
13and loved him; and be it further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to the family of Chester Slaughter as an expression
16of our deepest sympathy.
