HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate the Robert Lindblom Math
4and Science Academy on the occasion of its Centennial
5Anniversary; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Lindblom, which opened on September 2, 1919, is
7one of nine selective-enrollment high schools in the Chicago
8Public Schools system and draws the best students from all
9areas of the city; the academy was originally designated for
10students who intended to enter vocations in the industrial and
11skilled trades; initially, the Academy served a population with
12a high number of European immigrants and emphasized the
13importance of education in assimilation and advancement; as the
14number of industrial jobs declined following World War I and
15the job market changed, the Academy's curricula was changed to
16emphasize preparation for college, so students were able to
17obtain degrees needed for the changing markets; in 2005, the
18academy reopened under new leadership; it was granted landmark
19status by the City of Chicago on June 9, 2010; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Today, Lindblom is an inclusive, challenging, and
21supportive community that empowers students to become
22compassionate leaders who understand, engage, and impact the
23world; the academy offers a demanding college preparatory

1curriculum, where all core courses are honors and Advanced
2Placement; students are offered opportunities beyond the
3traditional coursework, including unique programs in critical
4world languages, math, and science; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Lindblom's Biotechnology Center of Excellence,
6run in partnership with Baxter International and the office of
7STEM Education Partnerships at Northwestern University,
8provides the anchor for the deep STEM program; the Baxter
9initiative builds upon the academy's established Biotechnology
10program by connecting students' classroom studies to
11real-world experiences and trains other Chicago Public School
12teachers to implement Biotechnology programs in their schools;
13and
 
14    WHEREAS, Lindblom continues to prepare students for higher
15education through its forward-looking Career Technical
16Education programs, including computer science and
17pre-engineering; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Lindblom will commemorate its Centennial
19Anniversary with Nest Fest, which will be held on August 31,
202019 and feature music, fun, camaraderie, and collegiality
21shared by many generations of Lindblom Eagles; therefore, be it
 
22    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE

1HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
2we congratulate the Robert Lindblom Math and Science Academy on
3the occasion of its Centennial Anniversary and wish the
4faculty, staff, and students many more successful years; and be
5it further
 
6    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
7presented to the Robert Lindblom Math and Science Academy as an
8expression of our esteem and respect.
