HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate the First Presbyterian Church of Danville on the occasion of its 190th anniversary; and

WHEREAS, The First Presbyterian Church began with eight members and, at one point, grew to over 1,100 members; and

WHEREAS, Reverend Enoch Kingsbury, the first pastor of the church, developed a close and lasting relationship with Abraham Lincoln as he rode the trails of the Eighth Judicial Circuit; and

WHEREAS, The First Presbyterian Church has always been actively engaged in efforts to forge partnerships with organizations throughout the community aimed at improving the lives of its fellow citizens and those less fortunate; and

WHEREAS, The First Presbyterian Church has sponsored missionaries both abroad and at home; and

WHEREAS, The First Presbyterian Church is recognized as a bedrock in the community, with a long history of providing food, shelter, healthcare, comfort, and support to any and all who pass through its doors; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the First Presbyterian Church of Danville on the occasion of its 190th anniversary and wish it many more successful years; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the First Presbyterian Church as an expression of our esteem and respect.
