HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Greg
4Hinton, a lifelong Chicagoan, who passed away on August 25,
52019; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Greg Hinton was born on August 4, 1953; he grew up
7in Bronzeville with his parents and six siblings; he graduated
8from Wendell Phillips Academy High School and the University of
9Illinois; he earned a master's degree from Loyola University
10Chicago and was a doctoral candidate studying values driven
11leadership at Benedictine University; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Greg Hinton was a proud member of Omega Psi Phi,
13the first predominantly African American fraternity to be
14founded at a historically black university, and was initiated
15into the Pi Psi Chapter at the University of Illinois in 1973;
16and
 
17    WHEREAS, Greg Hinton dedicated his life to expanding
18diversity in all levels of government, politics, and the
19private sector; he began his career as a human resources and
20staffing executive for multinational corporations, where he
21developed strategies to increase diversity in hiring and to
22create inclusive workplace environments; and

1    WHEREAS, Greg Hinton was appointed the first chief
2diversity officer for the Democratic National Committee, where
3he held campaigns across the country accountable for increasing
4the hiring of people of color and served as a liaison to the
5White House regarding political diversity matters; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Greg Hinton was the founder and Chief Executive
7Officer of Gregory Group Advisors, specializing in diversity
8and leadership consulting for businesses in the Chicago area;
9and
 
10    WHEREAS, After working with the Black United Fund of
11Illinois to provide philanthropic support to African American
12communities as a board member for 12 years, Greg Hinton was
13named Board Chairman of the organization in June 2019; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Greg Hinton was honored with over 50 awards in
15recognition of his leadership and contributions to communities
16across the globe; he served as a board member for dozens of
17organizations dedicated to advancing opportunities for
18minorities and to improving the lives of others; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Greg Hinton was a friend and mentor to many,
20dedicated to fostering the next generation of leaders in
21Chicago's South Side and across the world; he will be

1remembered for his exuberance, tenacious work ethic, and
2commitment to creating opportunities for all; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Greg Hinton is survived by his sons, Kyle,
4Christopher, and Greg; his daughter, Arifa; and two
5granddaughters; therefore, be it
 
6    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
7HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
8we mourn the passing of Greg Hinton and extend our sincere
9condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
10him; and be it further
 
11    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12presented to the family of Greg Hinton as an expression of our
13deepest sympathy.
