HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate Larry J. Goodman M.D. on the occasion of his retirement as CEO of Rush University Medical Center; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Goodman served as CEO from February 2002 to May 2019; during this time, he also served as president of Rush University until February 2, 2019; he was the first CEO of the Rush University System for Health, serving in this role from March 2017 to May 2019; he holds the academic rank of professor of internal medicine and is the university's James A. Campbell, M.D., Distinguished Service Professor; and

WHEREAS, Under Dr. Goodman's leadership, Rush University Medical Center became nationally recognized for excellence in patient care, breakthrough research, community engagement, and technological innovation while also returning to and maintaining a position of solid financial strength; and

WHEREAS, Before his appointments as CEO, Dr. Goodman served as senior vice president of medical affairs and dean of Rush Medical College; from 1995 to 1998, he was the medical director of Cook County Hospital (John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County); prior to that, he served at Rush University Medical Center as an infectious disease specialist, as associate dean of Rush Medical College, and as assistant dean of clinical curriculum; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Goodman is a 1976 graduate of the University of Michigan Medical School; he completed a residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in infectious disease at Rush University Medical Center; during his fellowship, he served as chief medical resident before joining the faculty; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Goodman serves on the board of The CORE Foundation, a model public-private venture between Cook County and Rush University Medical Center that established The Ruth M. Rothstein CORE Center, which cares for approximately 7,000 patients with HIV/AIDS; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Goodman is a member of the Commercial Club of Chicago and a board member of its Civic Consulting Alliance, which provides pro bono consulting services to the City of Chicago and Cook County in areas of greatest public need; he is also is a member of the board of the Joffrey Ballet; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Larry J. Goodman M.D. on his retirement as CEO of Rush University Medical Center; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Dr. Goodman as an expression of our esteem and respect.
