HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate the Gibson Area Food Pantry on its recent rapid expansion and unwavering dedication to the people of our State; and

WHEREAS, The Gibson Area Food Pantry was founded in 2014 inside of a storage shed at the Gibson Area Hospital in Gibson City; and

WHEREAS, The Gibson Area Food Pantry now has a permanent headquarters inside of the Elite Performance Center in Gibson City; and

WHEREAS, The Gibson Area Food Pantry offers a mass food distribution twice a month, providing support to those in need and serving over 4,170 individuals, which includes over 350 families from throughout Ford County as well as Champaign, Vermilion, Iroquois, McLean, Logan, Dewitt, Livingston, and Woodford Counties; and

WHEREAS, The Gibson Area Food Pantry provides a critical resource to homes with food insecurities; fifteen percent of those they serve are senior citizens, and 45 percent are juveniles; and

WHEREAS, The Gibson Area Food Pantry not only fills a great need in the community through its food distribution but has also found itself to be a beacon to the community, providing residents a place to come together and volunteer to help their neighbors and providing various organizations a means of connecting to serve a common purpose; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the Gibson Area Food Pantry on its rapid growth, and we celebrate the dedication of its volunteers for their hard work; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the Gibson Area Food Pantry as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
