HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate Herscher High School sophomore Drew Rogers on winning the 2019 Illinois High School Association Class 1A Cross Country State Championship in the three mile competition; and

WHEREAS, Before becoming the second State champion from Herscher High School and the first since 1989, Drew Rogers, as a freshman, competed at the Illinois State Track Championships in the 3200 meter competition; and

WHEREAS, Drew Rogers is the middle of three children within his family; he is a local standout and is often observed in the community as he trains; he worships at Trinity Lutheran Church in Herscher, where he participates in the Lutheran Youth Fellowship; and

WHEREAS, The Herscher High School boys cross country team, coached by Rob Grosso, placed 14th in the 2019 Class 1A State Finals; and

WHEREAS, Building upon his outstanding athletic talent, Drew Rogers has exhibited a commitment to his sport, rigorously training to compete at the top of the cross country field; and

WHEREAS, En route to his victory at the State level, Drew Rogers advanced through both the Bishop McNamara 1A Regional on October 26, 2019 with a time of fifteen minutes and thirty seconds in the three mile race and the Lisle 1A Sectional on November 2, 2019 with a winning time of sixteen minutes and five seconds in the 5,000 meter race; and

WHEREAS, During the championship on November 9, 2019, Drew Rogers set his personal record for the three mile race at fourteen minutes and thirty seconds; and

WHEREAS, Drew Rogers' winning time broke a Herscher High School record at the State championship, a record that had been held for three decades; his winning time is now the second fastest time for a sophomore in the event; and

WHEREAS, The second half of Drew Rogers' high school cross country career will continue in the fall of 2020; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Drew Rogers on winning the 2019 Illinois High School Association Class 1A Cross Country State Championship in the three mile competition, and we wish him luck throughout the remainder of his career as a student-athlete; and be it further

RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be presented to Drew Rogers and his immediate family as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
