HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate Paul Piekarski on the occasion of his retirement; and

WHEREAS, Paul Piekarski joined the Chicago and North Western Transportation Company in 1973; he worked as a clerk and brakeman and was then promoted to locomotive engineer in 1975; and

WHEREAS, Paul Piekarski became a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen (BLET) in 1974; he became president of BLET Division 683 in 1989 and worked through the ranks of BLET's state legislative board to become chairman in 2010; and

WHEREAS, In 2014, Paul Piekarski was elected as a National Alternate Legislative Vice President for BLET; in 2017, he was elected chair of the National Association of State Legislative Board Chairmen; and

WHEREAS, in 2019, Paul Piekarski successfully worked for the passage of legislation in the Illinois General Assembly requiring a two person crew in locomotives; and

WHEREAS, Paul Piekarski has tirelessly supported and fought for labor and rail safety on the local, State, and federal levels; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Paul Piekarski on his retirement, and we wish him the best in all his future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Paul Piekarski as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
