HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of U.S. Army
4Specialist Henry Mayfield Jr., who passed away on January 12,
52020 at the age of 23; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Spc. Mayfield joined the Armed Forces in June of
72018 after studying at Northern Illinois University; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Spc. Mayfield was killed in action during a
9predawn raid at the Manda Bay Airfield near Nairobi that is
10shared by the United States and Kenyan forces; and
 
11    WHEREAS, America has been blessed with an abundance of men
12and women who proudly and bravely serve our country,
13sacrificing a great deal for the cherished causes of freedom
14and democracy; and
 
15    WHEREAS, We salute their bravery and dedication to the
16defense of our democracy and independence and recognize that it
17is an extraordinary person who willingly steps into harm's way
18to protect others and to defend our freedom; Spc. Mayfield was
19such a person; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Spc. Mayfield was a vibrant young man; his parents

1describe him as positive and appreciative of his blessings; he
2often said, "We are here for a great time, not a long time.";
3and
 
4    WHEREAS, Spc. Mayfield learned the value of service,
5dedication, and discipline and knew the worth of life and
6liberty; therefore, be it
 
7    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
8HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
9we mourn the passing of U.S. Army Specialist Henry Mayfield Jr.
10and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and
11all who knew and loved him; and be it further
 
12    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13presented to the family of Spc. Mayfield as an expression of
14our deepest sympathy.
