HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The Illinois House of Representatives congratulates Rockford Police Department Deputy Chief John Pozzi on his retirement and commends his dedicated and exemplary service to Illinoisans in Winnebago County; and

WHEREAS, John Pozzi was born in Rockford on April 22, 1966; he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Law Enforcement Administration from Western Illinois University; he subsequently graduated from the Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command; and

WHEREAS, A 31 year veteran of the Rockford Police Department, John Pozzi launched his career as a patrol officer on June 20, 1988; in 1933, he was promoted and assigned to the Investigative Services Bureau where served as a gang detective, a youth detective, and a violent crimes detective; and

WHEREAS, In 2004, John Pozzi was promoted to sergeant and assigned to the Field Services Bureau; during this period, he served as a patrol sergeant as well as a special operations sergeant; he supervised several operations, including night shift patrol, the Bicycle Unit, the Rockford Housing Authority Unit, and the M3 Streets Team; and

WHEREAS, By 2012, John Pozzi was promoted to lieutenant and assigned to the Field Services Bureau; he voluntarily returned to the rank of sergeant in August 2013 and was assigned to the Field Services Patrol Division and then the Pilot Police District Neighborhood Response Unit; and

WHEREAS, In 2015, John Pozzi was re-assigned as commander of the Field Services Bureau Day Shift; by 2016, he was promoted again to lieutenant and assigned to District 3 Afternoon and Night Shift; in 2017, John was promoted to assistant deputy chief and was then assigned to District 3; and

WHEREAS, John Pozzi was promoted to deputy chief in 2018; and

WHEREAS, Throughout his career, John Pozzi served as a field training officer, firearms instructor, SWAT Team member and commander, Dignitary Protection Team member and supervisor, Canine Unit commander, Traffic Unit commander, Pilot Police District team leader, Illinois Department of Corrections policing liaison, and Rockford Housing Authority policing liaison; and

WHEREAS, John Pozzi also served as an executive board member of the Police Benevolent and Protective Association; and

WHEREAS, The community is grateful for John Pozzi's continued passion for his profession and moving leadership; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Rockford Police Department Deputy Chief John Pozzi on his retirement and commend his dedicated and exemplary service to Winnebago County; and be it further

RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be presented to John Pozzi and the Rockford Police Department.
