HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate Kirstin Grzonka on earning the Summit Award as a member of BSA Venturing Crew l in the Pathway to Adventure Council; and

WHEREAS, Venturing Scouts is an inclusive program through the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) for males and females aged 14 to 20, or those who are aged 13 and have completed the 8th grade; the program is operated through Venturing Crews, units of youth and advisors that meet on set schedules and plan activities and events for youth; and

WHEREAS, The Summit Award represents the Venturing Scouts' highest honor; to achieve this ultimate recognition, a scout must serve the crew as a leader, both formally and informally, and be a mentor to others; in addition, the scout must strengthen their community by designing and leading a service project to benefit others; and

WHEREAS, Starting last year, Kirstin Grzonka planned, led, and executed a Summit Award Service Project to assist the Heartland Animal Shelter, which had a desperate need for supplies and food; with the support of her crew, she was able to collect a significant volume of items for the shelter; and

WHEREAS, Kirstin Grzonka has displayed enviable leadership skills and has steadily advanced over the years; she served as Crew Quartermaster for the last 2 years and was responsible for all of the unit's equipment; she earned the Ranger Award, which is the highest award for outdoor skills in scouting; she was elected president by her crew at the end of 2019; and

WHEREAS, Kirstin Grzonka has also been nationally recognized; she was elected to join the Order of the Arrow, the National Honor Society of the BSA, which opened its elections to female scouts for the first time in its 104-year history in 2019; and

WHEREAS, Kirstin Grzonka is also a member of the Girl Scouts of America and a recipient of the Gold Award, the highest award in Girl Scouts; and

WHEREAS, Kirstin Grzonka will graduate this spring from Lake Zurich High School in Lake Zurich, where she was a member of the Lake Zurich Girls Bowling Team; she will be attending Northern Illinois University this fall to study biology with the intention of becoming a veterinarian; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Kirstin Grzonka on earning the Summit Award, and we wish her the best in all her future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Kirstin Grzonka as an expression of our esteem and respect.
