HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of James
4"Jim" Addington of Westmont, who passed away on July 18, 2020;
5and
 
6    WHEREAS, Jim Addington was a proud resident of the Village
7of Westmont for over 50 years; he and his wife Cathy were
8heavily involved in their local community, leaving Westmont all
9the better for their efforts; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Jim Addington took on an incredible number of
11civic roles; he was a member of the Lions Club, where he served
12for many years as its president and a term as district
13governor; he made every effort to contribute to the success of
14future students with Lions Club scholarships and oversaw the
15dedication of a Lions Park in Westmont; he volunteered with
16Habitat for Humanity, including as a local board member for 10
17years; he was also involved with the Knights of Columbus and
18the Westmont Park District; he organized events that brought
19the Westmont community together across decades, including the
20Taste of Westmont, Red White and BBQ, Pow Wow Days, and Santa
21Claus for Holly Days; his involvement with local Westmont
22government included serving as co-chair of the Economic
23Development Commission and as chair of the Community

1Development Committee; he served on the Police Pension Board
2and the Police & Fire Commission and as village trustee and
3mayor; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Jim Addington served as a passionate advocate for
5local parks, including securing legislation to improve
6nighttime safety; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Jim Addington left his mark on Westmont's downtown
8core, shepherding the new village hall, Westmont Centre, the
9downtown Westmont Centre Plaza and Fountain, the downtown
10streetscape and lamps, and the creation of Westmont Main
11Street; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Jim Addington left his mark on Westmont's
13character, leading by example and dedicating his life not to
14things but to people and community service, which has resulted
15in a significant benefit for the entire Westmont community and
16to those who visited and received a warm Westmont welcome from
17him; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Jim Addington served as a friend and mentor to
19thousands of community leaders over the years and was always
20there to cheer them on to success, often to the same level of
21zest and enthusiasm he showed for the Westmont High School boys
22basketball team; and

1    WHEREAS, Jim Addington's unwavering dedication to his
2community and to duty was confirmed by his attendance at a
3village trustee meeting from his hospital room shortly before
4his passing; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Jim Addington was devoted to and beloved by his
6family, including his son Jimmy and daughter-in-law Genie, his
7daughter Lisa and son-in-law Brian, and his grandchildren,
8Samantha, Chloe, Kristen, and Carolyn, who will keep his zest
9for life and his love for them forever in their hearts;
10therefore, be it
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
12HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
13we mourn the passing of James "Jim" Addington, a man who
14represented the best of Westmont and the people of Illinois,
15and we extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends,
16and all who knew and loved him; and be it further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to the family of Jim Addington as an expression of
19our deepest respect and sympathy.
