HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate John Clancy on the occasion of his 99th birthday on October 18, 2020; and

WHEREAS, John Clancy enlisted in the United States Navy on September 26, 1942 as a Chief Petty Officer and is one of the oldest living World War II veterans; and

WHEREAS, John Clancy's initial time in the Navy was spent in Naval Intelligence; when that department was closed in early 1944, he was assigned to the USS Nehenta Bay (CVE-74); and

WHEREAS, John Clancy served as a Flight Deck Chief/Plane Director while assigned to the USS Nehenta Bay; after the war, he continued to serve as the Chief Master of Arms while the Nehenta Bay transported sailors to their home ports; and

WHEREAS, John Clancy was discharged from the Navy on December 29, 1945 after serving with distinction; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate John Clancy on the occasion of his 99th birthday, and we wish him many more wonderful years; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to John Clancy as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
