HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate Marricea Page on being selected as one of the 10 finalists for the 2021 Teacher of the Year Award by the Illinois State Board of Education; and

WHEREAS, Marricea Page is a fourth-grade teacher at Dr. Maude A. Sanders Primary School; she has taught at Dr. Maude A. Sanders Primary School since 2011; previously, she worked as an English teacher at Trewyn School in the Peoria Public School District; and

WHEREAS, Marricea Page earned her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Bradley University; she earned her Master of Education from both Concordia University and Indiana Wesleyan University; and

WHEREAS, Marricea Page's inspiration to become an educator came from two teachers, her aunt and Mrs. Linda Wagner; her aunt, a teacher for a school district in East Louis, gave her the opportunity to serve as a summer school teaching assistant, an experience that developed her love for helping and teaching others; her elementary school teacher Mrs. Linda Wagner, a Peoria Public School teacher, made her students feel important and welcomed in her classroom; she strives to make every student feel welcome, important, and loved in her classroom; and

WHEREAS, Marricea Page was recognized for being a Grow Your Own mentor and worked extensively to provide mentoring, professional development, and support to colleagues throughout Peoria Public Schools; and

WHEREAS, Marricea Page strives to make every student feel welcome, important, and loved in her classroom; she uses the whole child approach in her teaching, focusing on the social-emotional needs as well as the academic needs of her students; her teaching style is unique because she creates coursework that is exciting and relatable to students; and

WHEREAS, Marricea Page was selected for the 20-county regional Board of Education Teacher of the Year Award 2020 for West-Central Illinois; she was named Peoria Public School's Donald M. Phares Classroom Teacher of the Year 2020 in August; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Marricea Page on being selected as one of the 10 finalists for the 2021 Teacher of the Year Award by the Illinois State Board of Education, and we commend her for her dedication to her students and her community-oriented service to Peoria's youth; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Marricea Page as an expression of our esteem and respect.
